MicroChilli Tax

Tax returns, on books
we already know.

No shoebox in October.

Your return is prepared from books that have been right all year. No chasing you for receipts, no explaining your own business to someone who has never seen it, and a fixed fee quoted before anyone starts.

The bit that costs you

Tax time isn't expensive.

Reconstructing the year is.

Why it's different here

Most of the cost is someone working out what happened.

A return itself isn't complicated. What makes it expensive is an accountant spending hours reconstructing twelve months from bank statements and guesswork in the week before a deadline.

If the books are already right, that work disappears.

That's the whole argument for having both handled in one place. Not because you have to, but because you stop paying twice for the same twelve months.

And if you're behind. Late returns are ordinary here. We quote them the same way, upfront, and it's almost always less frightening than the version in your head.

The fees

Quoted before we start.

All prices are from, and exclude GST. Final fees depend on complexity and the state of your records, and every job is quoted upfront.

Questions

The ones people actually ask.

Do I have to use your bookkeeping to get my return done?

No. Tax is priced and delivered separately, and plenty of people use one without the other. It's simply faster and cheaper when the books are already right, because nobody has to reconstruct the year first.

When is my tax return actually due?

If you lodge it yourself, 31 October. Lodging through a registered tax agent usually extends that, often to as late as 15 May the following year, as long as you're on the agent's list before 31 October. Which is a good reason not to leave it until the week before.

I haven't lodged for a couple of years. Is that a problem?

It's common, and it's fixable. Late returns are quoted the same way as any other, upfront, and getting current is almost always cheaper and less frightening than the version you've been carrying around.

Will you tell me what I could have claimed?

Yes, and more usefully, we'll tell you before the year ends rather than after. That's the difference between a return that records what happened and one that was planned for.

Can you take over from my current accountant?

Yes, and it's a normal, unremarkable process. We request your records from them directly. You don't have to have an awkward conversation about it.
